Kraken Commerce AI (LLM) Usage Policy

Since ChatGPT 3.5 was released in November, 2022, the landscape of software development has been completely transformed. Things that used to take days to build can now be built in hours. And the spring of 2025 introduced Claude Code, which further accelerated how quickly a developer could “write” code and solve problems. This short document outlines how Kraken Commerce is embracing AI and the commitments we make to use it ethically, securely, and responsibly.

All Kraken Commerce team members have made these commitments:

  • We commit to restrict AI’s access to the PII (Privately Identifiable Information) of our client’s customer’s, such as ecommerce order or customer data
  • We commit to carefully review and test all code written by AI before we deploy that code to a production environment
  • We commit to fight against AI Slop by thinking critically about code and content that is produced by AI, as if we or a peer had written it
  • Even though we love writing code by hand, we commit to serving our clients well by leveraging AI/LLM tools when large efficiencies can be gained by doing so
  • We commit to only use AI models for software development that have been approved by Kraken Commerce’s leadership and that are powered by US-owned companies (e.g., not DeepSeek)
    • As of November 2025, Kraken Commerce has approved the use of Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
  • We commit to keep this usage policy updated on our website, including a changelog of changes

This document was written by a human without the aid of AI. Thus the lack of verbosity or emoji.
